How to get rid of mice in Utah: Do’s and Don’ts

Tried everything and still have mice/rats? Here’s 4 UNIQUE Rodent Control tips from a Pro.

No.1 -Don’t underestimate rodent infestations:

GO HARD UP FRONT. Mice infestations persist because the population is underestimated and undercontrolled. ALWAYS assume you have underestimated the amount of mice present. Remember, 20 mice can become 2000 mice in 7 months, and that a couple of glue traps might not be enough.

No.2-Don’t rely on one type of trap:

USE VARIETY. Research shows that giving rodents “choices” when it comes to traps, is FAR MORE EFFECTIVE then using one trap or bait type. Some rodents will NOT engage with one type of trap, but will engage with another.

No.3-Do remove sources of food and water:

MAKE THE BAIT THE BEST OPTION. Mice that are already feeding on a specific food item in your pantry, will continue to choose that food item OVER the baits and traps you set up. Finding and removing their current food sources, and proper storage of food and garbage going forward, will make baits and traps more attractive to rodents, and therefore more effective.

-Do seal up possible entry points:

IF THEY CAN’T GET IN, THEY CAN’T GET IN. Find likely entry points for the rodents and seal them. Gap in a door? Self adhesive weather strip. Gap around a pipe entering the home? Steel Wool, Foam, or Caulk. Remember, mice can fit in a 1/4 “ gap, if a pen can fit in it, so can a mouse.
