What bait is best for mouse traps?

What bait is best for mouse traps? The short answer is to USE A VARIETY. Research shows that offering rodents “choices” is FAR more effective than using a single type of bait or trap. Research also shows rodents will get BORED of baits, all the more reason to rotate and vary.

Bait #1 What they are ALREADY eating:

If the mice in your home are eating dog food, use that dog food as bait on traps. The familiarity of the food will make mice less suspicious of the free lunch. Inspect ALL food items in pantries and cabinets to find what it is they are eating.

Bait #2 Peanut Butter:

Mice rely heavily on their sense of smell to find food sources, Peanut Butter is a fantastic food to use as bait for this reason. It’s affordable, available, and nontoxic. You can use Peanut butter on glue traps, snap traps, or multi-catch traps.

Bait #3 Chocolate Syrup or Nutella:

One of our personal favorites. Using savory baits on some traps, and sweet baits on others, give mice a ‘choice,’ which research shows is more effective than using the same bait over and over. We’ve used chocolate syrup on Snap Traps and Glue Traps for years.

Bait #4 Bacon Bits:

Just like most people, mice love the smell of bacon. Bacon Bits can be a fantastic substitute, and can be sprinkled on glue traps, snap traps, or inside multi-catch traps.
