Today I wanted to share my poisonous-bite story, and go over a few bugs to watch out for in Utah! I was living in Salt Lake City, and had just begun remodeling my duplex. I had all the carpets torn up exposing the bedroom to the crawl space. When I woke up, my arms veins were raised and inflamed, leading towards my chest. I had gotten bit and didn’t get super powers. At the ER, I found out it was a BLOOD INFECTION. Not Poison! Truly a spooky thought, that even non-poisonous spiders/insects can infect you. Not just the big boys below!
Kissing Beetle in Utah: The CDC has cited this South American Blood Sucking insect in EVERY state. And they are spreading. These bad boys can carry Chagas’ Disease, and are to be avoided. In our experience we’ve seen them dwelling in piles of stacked wood and or leaves in the yard. The Brown Recluse. You can spot a brown recluse by the violin shape right behind Its eyes. Their bites are know for destroying tissue, leaving scarring and in more serious cases, death. Call a doctor immediately if you believe you have been bitten by a brown Recluse.
